You may have heard about VPNs. In fact, most corporations have been using Virtual Private Networks for ages!

These systems are used by businesses to provide their employees access to the company applications and data without risking any security breach. They were quite expensive in the past, but today anyone can have access to them.

Random tech fact

Gartner predicts that people will use augmented reality devices to do their shopping in the future.

According to them, the estimated number of VR consumers is going to exceed 100 million people by 2020.
The basic guide to VPN services
Here's why you should use a VPN for yourself.

1. VPNs can prevent hackers from accessing your computer

Yes, pretty much any virtual private network service can erect a strong encryption wall, which will safeguard the data that's either entering or exiting your computer.

Have you heard about man in the middle attacks? Well, if you use a VPN service, they simply aren't possible.

2. VPNs provide anonymity

Virtual private networks will help keep your identity secret. Many websites track your unique IP address these days, but if you're using a VPN, they will only be able to see the address of the VPN server that connects you to those sites. Some VPN services are even able to switch your IP address every hour or so.

You shouldn't rely on VPNs to do evil things, though. Computer security specialists who have access to your ISP's logs will be able to identify the bad websites you visited - if any.

3. VPNs can help while you are traveling

I know, you simply can't live without Netflix! You gotta see the latest episodes from your favorite shows even while you are traveling to the beautiful Europe!

A VPN helps you choose the desired country, allowing you to bypass any limitations that were set by the service provider. This means that you be in Italy, and still get access to your favorite US shows, as if you were in the country.

4. VPNs can help you enjoy free, secure Wi-Fi access

I don't know about you, but I'm quite afraid of connecting to free Wi-Fi networks. And I've got a solid explanation for that!

Many villains set up fake hotspots, or connect to unencrypted hotspots, and then spy on other people's devices, trying to get access to their personal data: credit card info, private photos, and so on.

A virtual private network encrypts your data, so Internet browsing can be 100% secure - yes, even while you are traveling and using an open Wi-Fi hotspot!

Okay, I think that I've convinced you: VPNs are the very best thing since the British have invented fish and chips! But how do you get access to one of these services?

Most people pay a monthly subscription for a VPN service, with prices that range from $10-$20 per month. However, other people like me search the web, looking for lifetime deals.

Frankly, I have gotten a great lifetime deal for one of the VPN services I'm using right now, but I'm pretty sure that it's not available anymore. However, if you visit this site regularly, you may catch another great virtual private network deal.

Once that you have chosen your provider, it's time to install the associated software application. Simply download the app, and then install it on your computer or mobile device. The best VPN providers offer mobile and desktop applications, so keep this in mind while you are doing your research. If you travel a lot, you will appreciate the convenience of having access to your VPN on the smartphone as well.

With the application installed, it's all as easy as choosing the preferred server, and then connecting to the VPN. Don't forget that you will only be protected if you connect to the VPN BEFORE starting any browsing session, though.

Some people leave the virtual private network on at all times, but I wouldn't recommend it. Often times, your Internet browsing speed will be significantly smaller, so only use the VPN for what it was meant to be in the first place: protecting your online identity.
